The late Paddy and Josie McGoldrick RIP

It has been a most difficult week for the McGoldrick Family, Ck-on-Shannon as they say goodbye to the late Paddy McGoldrick and his wife, the late Josie. A couple who have been synonymous with trading in Ck-on-Shannon over many years, the McGoldrick family has also been associated with the GAA to a huge degree and have been most generous sponsors of the local St Marys Kiltoghert GAA Club, Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada, in addition to being a very popular meeting place after many GAA events in the town over the years.

Paddy who died Monday 27th June and Josie who died on Friday last, 24th June, are deeply regretted and sadly missed by their loving sons Padraic and Sean, daughters Aine, Martina and Teresa, and extended familiy. Josies funeral mass took place on Monday last and Paddy is reposing at the home of his son Padraic and daughter-in-law Margaret, Coreen, Dublin Road, Carrick-on-Shannon tomorrow Wednesday from 1 oclock until 4 oclock with removal to St.Marys Church, Carrick-on-Shannon arriving at 7 oclock. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 12 oclock followed by burial of Paddy and his wife Josie in St.Marys Cemetery.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh siad.

GAA Club Health and Wellbeing Officer Training in Bush Hotel on Friday

Training for GAA Club Health and Wellbeing Officers will take place in The Bush Hotel on Friday with registration at 7.45pm, and the session concluding at 10pm sharp.

Each club is encouraged to send two representatives to avail of this training, the first of its kind to take place in Leitrim. (The training is currently being rolled out across the country.) If your club hasn’t yet appointed a health and wellbeing officer, anyone interested in the role is welcome to attend.

The training will be delivered by Derek Kelleher, who was trained as a health and wellbeing tutor in Croke Park in January, and Colin Regan, GAA Community and Health Manager. It touches on a range of topics, including:

  • What health and wellbeing is, and how to maintain it
  • How sport and being a GAA member helps
  • The role of the Club Health and Wellbeing Officer
  • The Four Building Blocks of a Healthy Club
  • How this work can benefit clubs, players, members, and communities
  • How to respond to critical incidents

The training is interactive and engaging and each delegate will receive a participant workbook and a certificate while each club represented will receive a Healthy Club manual to help guide them.

Representatives from other sporting clubs/codes are also welcome to send a representative. Please email secretary.leitrim@gaa.ie to confirm who from your club will attend.

A Commemorative 1916 Mass

for  Sean Mc Dermott and Tom Clarke

The Church of the Sacred Heart, Arbour Hill  Dublin 7.

Date: May 12th 2016 at 6.30 pm

26.04.16

A very special commemorative Mass will be offered, in The Church of the Sacred Heart  Arbour Hill (Church of the Defence Forces) for Sean Mc Dermott & for Tom Clarke on May 12th at 6.30 pm

This is planned for this specific date, because this was the exact date that Sean Mc Dermott was executed in May 1916.

Father Tom Colreavy will  celebrate the Mass.

As you know, both men have Leitrim connections. Sean Mc Dermott was from Kiltyclogher & Tom Clarke’s father was from Carrigallen. Our Dublin Branch held an annual mass in Arbour Hill Church, every May, over many years, for both these men.

We would greatly appreciate your assistance in spreading the word about this special Mass by notifying The Leitrim GAA Supporters Club Membership on our behalf.

You can contact me at 087 2564110 if you require any further details.

Yours sincerely,
