A tremendous display by the 34-year-old Ann Marie Cox, who scored eight points, ensured that Leitrim won only their second-ever adult Ladies football title and a first-ever Intermediate success at Croke Park this afternoon.
The final was certainly on a knife-edge throughout and although Wexford held a 0-05 to 0-01 lead after nine-and-a-half minutes play, they were certainly tested by a very committed and strong Leitrim team who turned a four-point deficit into a two-point interval lead.
Leitrims first and only point of the opening ten minutes came from half-forward Anna Conlon, but Wexford were strong and excellent points from Deirdre Fox, Caroline Murphy, Sharon Kehoe, Liz Evered and Kate Kelly gave Brendan Dardis charges the early advantage.
However, Leitrim suddenly bounced back strongly with four points in a three-minute spell, with veteran player Cox in excellent form from placed balls, while Eileen Donaghue and Sarah McLoughlin were also on target as the sides were level for the second time.
Wexford regained the lead thanks to a Josie Dwyer effort but Leitrim responded well.
Following a superb save by goalkeeper Louise Loughlin from a Kate Kelly shot, the Leitrim side bossed the tie until the interval with another Cox pointed free and two Sarah McLoughlin points from play ensuring a 0-08 to 0-06 half-time lead for them.
Caroline Murphy responded well for Wexford with the first point after the restart but Leitrim still held the lead. Yet the purple and gold-clad side quickly broke in front thanks to a well-worked goal from Kate Kelly, who shook off the challenge of two defenders to score.
But Wexfords lead was to be short-lived as the free-taking machine that is Ann Marie Cox scored her sides next four points. Coxs dead ball prowess, along with scores from Eileen Donaghue and Sarah McLoughlin, saw Leitrim build up a 0-15 to 1-08 lead.
Wexford managed to point two frees in quick succession but Leitrim continued to remain strong and an excellent point from play from Cox summed up Leitrims day.
Wexford never gave up but Leitrims defence remained resilient and they went on to lift a first adult title since 1988.

LadiesLEITRIM LADIES G.A.A. SUPPORTERS CLUB
Leitrim people at home and away are always proud and supportive of their county and the achievements of fellow Leitrim people. This was never more true than when the Leitrim Ladies won the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship in Croke Park in 2007 and the home-coming reception they received throughout the county. Leitrim County Council hosted a civic reception for them and The Leitrim Guardian Committee have awarded the team the prestigious Person of the Year Award for 2008. Further honours have followed with Sarah McLoughlin from Ballinamore receiving an All Star Award.
2008 represents an unprecedented opportunity at Senior level for Leitrim to build on the success of this year and bring further honours to the county. With this in mind, a Leitrim Ladies Supporters Club has been formed to provide the necessary finance to fund their campaign in 2008. We are seeking the support of all Leitrim people at home and abroad to achieve this aim.
We are hosting the popular entertainment night "Who wants to be a Thousandaire" on February 1st. This show is run on a nation-wide basis by Pallas Marketing and attracts large audiences in venues all over the country. The show is completely computerised with 50/50, phone a friend and ask the audience etc.
We are offering businesses the unique opportunity of large screen advertising on two large 8ft x 6ft screens on the night of the show. Each advert will be seen approximately 8 to 10 times and the adverts can include digital images of you or your premises. We will arrange the photographs for you or your can email a pre-set powerpoint advert with corporate logos etc. to Mary Glancy at maryeglancy@eircom.net
The adverts are available at €200 each which is tax allowable, if you pay tax at the high rate the net cost could reduce to €118 approx. Each advertiser will also receive 2 complimentary tickets for the show which is a great nights entertainment.
We are conscious of the demands made on your business for sponsorship but we would urge you to look favourably at this request to get behind the Leitrim Ladies in order that they can compete favourably in 2008 and do lovely Leitrim proud. We attach a short summary on the main benefits of this form of advertising. A member of our committee will contact you in the next few days to discuss this further.

League Roundup
Club FootballIts time to take a look at the League Tables and see how things have progressed over the weeks since our last roundup on Podcast 6 with Declan Bohan. The first of the League finals is this Sunday and its in Division 3 between Drumkeerin and Dromahaire.
Division 1
Melvin Gaels currently hold the top place followed closely by County Senior Champions St. Marys and last years Intermediate Champions Carrigallen. Both the Gaels and Carrigallen are playing their last game this weekend against middle of the table placings Mohill and Bornacoola respectively. St. Marys are facing Glencar Manorhamilton in their penultimate game. All results will be pivotal in deciding the placings as they head into the final straight but with St. Marys having an extra game they must hold the strongest hand. Bornacoola and Glencar Manor can end on equal points for second positions but the score difference will probably rule them out. If St. Marys can get themselves together after last weekends disappointing Connacht performance then they are favourites to make it to the final and the chance to make it a double title.
Division 2
Current table toppers Sean O Heslins are finished their games and now await the proceedings of this weekend as the sole fixture is between Annaduff and Aughnasheelin who currently lie third. If Aughnasheelin lose or draw then the final parings are decided as second place Gortletteragh are guaranteed to be in the mix with Sean O Heslins. A win for Aughnasheelin will mean that Gortletteragh must play their outstanding game to decide the final pairings.
Division 3
This is a fait accompli as the final is this weekend Drumkeerin meet Dromahaire on Sunday at 2pm in Pairc Sean. Both teams have performed admirably in the League and have only lost 3 games between them. Drunkeerin however top the table and their 91 points score difference show that their forwards and defence are well tuned. Dromahaire have it all to do in this local derby on Sunday.
Division 4
This division wont be going to final stages anythime soon as there are 16 games unplayed with 2 of them scheduled for this weekend. Each of the games could prove crucial as there are 2 teams at the top, Carrigalen and Annaduff, with 3 to 4 others in hot pursuit. score difference may prove to be a big decider over the next few weeks. This Sunday Kiltubrid play Cloone and Annauff play Ballinaglera and this may make the picture clearer.
Division 5
Teams in division 5 cannot complain about not getting enough games as the competition is based around a total of 91 league games and thankfully 80 have been played to date. Dromahaire are the clear table leaders with all their games played and they are 5 points clear of St. Caillins and St. Marys who lie on 20 points each. St. Caillins have 1 game to play and this is scheduled for this weekend against Gortletteragh on Sunday at 1pm. This will determine of they need to force St. Marys to win their remaining 2 games as St. Marys penultimate fixture is also fixed for Sunday against Glencar Manorhamilton.

Frustration as FBD Game postponed
Club FootballThere was understandable frustration all round in Mervue this afternoon as the FBD League game betweenÓgMIT and Leitrim was officially postponed by referee Oliver Kelly, at 1:40pm.
After a thorough inspection the pitch in Mervue was rightfully deemed unplayable due to water logging. Attempts to secure another venue failed and everyone had to turn around and head for home.
The game was originally scheduled for Pearse Stadium but that change was announced earlier in the week as Pearse Stadium is being rested at the moment. Castlegar was secured for the fixture but earlier this morning there was communication from Galway to say that the Castlegar field was unplayable and the game was hastily moved to Mervue
Every effort was made to inform all interested parties, from supporters to officials, of the last minute change of venue but to no avail. By 2pm when the throw-in should have happened the venue was all but deserted and the seagulls were left to their own devices to play in the puddles.
In this day and age better is expected.

Connacht AIB Intermediate Club Semi-final – Report
Club FootballCarrigallen 3 ? 5
Menlough 1 ? 4
Carrigallen walked tall on Saturday when they convincingly defeated Galway kingpins, Menlough by double scores (3 ? 5 to 1 ? 4) in the Connacht intermediate football semi-final in Ballinamore.
Meanwhile Mayo champions, Tourmakeady, who defeated Roscommon?s Kilmore by three points (1 ? 8 to 1 ? 5) in the other semi-final, will be Carrigallen?s opponents in this weekend?s Connacht final.
Menlough grabbed an early lead in Saturday?s game when Brendan Costello put over a third minute free.
But CarrigallenÓgot on level terms some seven minutes later after Charles McGuinness found the target with a similar effort.
Following that Carrigallen took a grip on the proceedings when Andrew McManus and Noel Doonan combined well in the fourteenth minute for Doonan to shoot the game?s first goal.
A second CarrigallenÓgoal four minutes later from Terence Reynolds, after he fielded a ball that ricochet off the post, following a Charles McGuinness free, dealt a hammer blow to Menlough?s challenge.
The Galway men responded with points from frees, which were hit over by Robert Hughes and Brendan Costello over the next eight minutes.
Charles McGuinness converted a free before the interval that gave Carrigallen a five points halftime cushion (2 ? 2 to 0 ? 3).
Menlough made a determined effort to turn the game around in the third quarter but the Carrigallen defence plugged every gap with the result that the Galway side only managed to cut the deficit by a solitary point.
Robert Hughes registered this score when he tapped over a forty-third minute free.
Carrigallen went back resolutely on the offensive in the final quarter after Charles McGuinness hammered home his side?s third goal, following a piecing of indecisive fielding by two Menlough defenders close to their goalmouth.
Over the next ten minutes the Leitrim side ensured victory when Terence Reynolds, sub Derek Mulligan and Charles McGuinness added Carrigallen points from play.
It was proving to be an unpleasant trip to Leitrim for the Galway champions and there were further problems for the Menlough men before the end when Brendan Costello was dismissed for committing a second yellow card offence.
But Menlough did manÓge a consolationÓgoal when Robert Hughes drove to the Carrigallen net, deep in injury time, in a crowded goalmouth situation.
Carrigallen: Enda Lyons, Ciaran Harte, David Flynn, Dermot Mulligan, Garry Reynolds, J. P.
