Connacht GAA Club Minor Football Championship 2015

Connacht GAA are delighted to announce details of the inaugural Connacht GAA Club Minor Football Championship 2015. This initiative which was promoted through the provincial Coaching & Games Committee will see the County Champions in the Minor A and B grades compete in the Connacht Club Championship. The games will be played on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th November in the Connacht GAA Centre. (Complete fixture schedule below)

Last weekend saw the Leitrim winners, Melvin Gaels, defeat Sligo winners Calry/St. Josephs, 2-13 to 0-11 in the quarter final of the Connacht GAA Minor B Club Football Championship. They now progress to play Oranmore-Maree in the first semi-final with Knockmore from Mayo taking on Oran from Roscommon in the other semi-final.

The Connacht GAA Minor A Club Football Championship will see the winners from Sligo, St. Mary’s take on Leitrim Champions, St. Manachan’s in the provincial quarter final this Sunday, 1st November, in Kent park Sligo. The winners of this fixture will face Galway’s Salthill/Knocknacarra in the first of the semi-finals. The second semi-final will pit Claremorris(Mayo) against Roscommon champions Padraig Pearses. The Connacht GAA Minor A Club Football Championship trophy is named after the late Fr. Oliver Hughes who dedicated so much of his life to developing footballers through his involvement with various clubs and of course the famed St. Jarlaths.

In commenting on the competitions, John Tobin said, ‘I am looking forward to these games and I have no doubt that we will see football of a high standard, giving further evidence of the enormous work being carried out with the young players within their clubs. We have a very strong base of coaching within the province and this competition provides clubs with an opportunity to compete at a higher level’.

Connacht 60×30 Championship

This week sees the return of Donal Wrynn to competitive inter county handball action when he teams up with Martin Raftery in the Connacht 60×30 Intermediate Doubles Championship semi-final. This is a formidable combination with Wrynn, who took the  2012 All-Ireland Minor title in 40×20 and Minor Doubles title in 60×30, while Raftery won the 2014 All-Ireland Junior 60×30. They take on a very strong Roscommon pairing of Niall McGrath and Mark Nally in St Comans Roscommon tomorrow (Thursday) evening at 7.30.
Other Leitrim players in action this week are Leo Logan and Jamie Murray who take on Dennis Creighton and Sean Jennings (Roscommon) in the 60×30 Junior Championship semi-final, and Barry McDonagh who faces Matt Kenny (Galway) in the Junior C Final.

TG4 Intermediate All Ireland Semi Final Leitrim v Waterford

It has been a great year for Leitrim Ladies winning the Connacht Intermediate final for a second year in a row and reaching the All Ireland semi final but unfortunately our journey for 2015 ended last Saturday in Limerick. After defeating Clare in the All Ireland quarter final the ladies battled it out against Waterford for that all important final spot in Croke Park. The team started off strong with Leitrim leading the first half until the last dying minutes of the first half. Leaving only a point between the teams at half time. Leitrim 1-02 Waterford 1-03. Waterford took control after half time and proved to be the stronger team on the day. Leitrim showed great determination and battled it out till the very end.  Final score Leitrim 2-06 Waterford 2-17.

U8/U10 Blitz: Fenagh are hosting an U8/U10 blitz this Saturday. Any club interested in taking part please contact Marion McKeon on 087 7767220 by Thursday.
