The All-Ireland Scór na nÓg Finals took place last Saturday 30th January in the INEC Killarney. St Marys Kiltoghert represented Connacht, the first to the stage in the very tough Ballad group competition. The 5 Carrick girls gave a thoroughly fabulous performance and sang their hearts out but lost out to Ulsters Tyrone.

In Question Time, Leitrim was represented earlier in the day by Fenagh, St Caillains . Tough but fair questions put to the teams this year by quizmaster Seamus Curley and at round 10- Kerry took the title once again. With the new procedures for the quiz since 2014, it is now a table quiz style competition with all 32 counties qualifying to take part, the top 3 teams received medals.
Connachthrough home two titles, one in recitation & Aughamore of Mayo for Set Dancing, a repeat win on last years title.

2016 brought a new judging forum to the All-Ireland finals. Competitions were judged by one single judge for each competition on Saturday. The implementation by the National Scór committee was met with mixed reactions from the countys across the country in Killarney. While each Judge was selected and elected to the judging panel as proficient and qualified /specialised in their given category, it will take some time to settle into for the audience and countys alike.

Irish TV were also in Citywest to record the days proceedings. A special documentary series from All-Ireland GAA Scór na nÓg and Scór Sinsir Finals will be broadcast bringing our cultural highlights to a global audience. The first of the three Scór na nÓg series will air on IRISH TV on Sky191, Freesat 400, all free to air boxes or Eircoms eVision 191 and online at www.irishtv.ie on Sunday February 28th at 8.30pm.

Connacht Scór final takes place on Saturday 27th February in Tubbercurry Sligo, followed by the All -Ireland in the INEC Killarney on April 2nd 2016.

Schools Scór is pushed back to the 3rd & 4th of march, as senior Scór takes precident as the official compeition, it was not possible to hold it in Jan/Feb as in previous years as easter holidays are falling quite early this year.
It would be encouraged that Schools Scór be encouraged by the clubs for partipation as this is where the talent and love of the music song & dance is nurtured. It is a fantasitic outlet & will help identify new people in your community that may not nessessarily be involved in field games but may like to join the club and get involved in the area.
Last year there was high numbers of entries so while trying not to deter the childrens enthiusiam to take part, compeitions were reduced from 11 to 9 as it wasnt possible to identify 2 available friday nights, and want to avoid a late school night.

Entries to be a max of 2 per competition per school

Figure Dancing
Recitation
Solo Singing
Instrumental Music – 1 tune
Ballad Group – 1 song

Leitrim GAA Supporters Club (Dublin Branch) Launch 2016

Last night in the magnificent surrounds of the Celtic Suite, Croke Park, two hundred Leitrim people converged for the Dublin launch of the annual Leitrim GAA Supporters Club 2016. It was, yet again, a great gathering of Leitrim people from Dublin and beyond and a large number who travelled up for night from their Leitrim homes.

Chairman of the Dublin Branch, Mike Feeney, welcomed all to the event and looked forward to a successful year for Leitrim. He invited Joe Layden to address the crowd during which he gave many insightful ideas as to what Leitrim must do in order to progress and be competitive in an ever increasing competitive world.

Cathaoirleach Coiste Chontae Liatroma, Terence Boyle, was next to speak and his announcement that the first county training session on the Centre of Excellence would take place on Friday January 22nd was met with great approval. In a far reaching address, Senior and Under 21 Manager, Shane Ward gave a detailed account of progress to date and realistic hopes for the future as we continue to build on and invest in youth.

Following the break in proceedings, MC Colin Regan interviewed Special Guest Dessie Dolan Junior, who regaled the crowd with his experiences of a lifetime given to football from his back garden to the hallowed ground of Croke Park. It was most insightful and informative.

Special Guest Ben Lennon was next to be interviewed by Colin and what a gem of an experience this proved to be as Ben recounted a flavour of a lifetime of experiences from growing up in his native Kiltyclogher, before finishing off the night with a selection of beautiful tunes on the fiddle, accompanied by Maeve Ni Lochlainn, MartinÓgaffney and John McCartin.

Overall it was a hugely successful occasion, excellently organised by the Dublin based committee. As the crowd dispersed, approaching 10.30pm, one could not help but sense the enthusiasm for the year ahead.  Some photographs from the occasion are available here.
